Laura Hilty is a health tech operator turned venture capital investor. After two decades working to improve healthcare, she is investing in early-stage health tech companies and helping portfolio companies grow through strategy and board work.

Prior to HealthX, she held leadership roles spanning corporate strategy, M&A, product strategy, product management, and partnerships across stages from company start-up to scale, through Forte / Advarra and Epic. Through that time, she launched 7 new software products, helped the company exit, developed corporate strategy, and acquired 6 companies within 18 months, all contributing to the company’s $5B valuation. With clinical research domain expertise combined with experience in Electronic Healthcare Records (EHRs) at Epic, she is passionate about creating new paradigms in healthcare that create impactful and sustainable change.

Laura holds a Bachelor’s in Molecular / Cell Biology from Vanderbilt University, is a mentor to start-up entrepreneurs, active in helping improve healthcare in Africa, and spends her free time negotiating with her young daughter or outdoors hiking or kayaking.

Kevin Franck, PhD, MBA, is a leader in the inner-ear field with 25 years of expertise spanning the development, commercialization, and clinical provision of hearing-related medical products. He earned his PhD in Hearing Science from the University of Washington and his MBA in Health Care Management from the Wharton School. He is also a licensed audiologist.

Kevin’s biotech and medical device senior leadership experience spans SVP, Strategic Marketing and New Product Planning at Frequency Therapeutics, Head of Marketing at Bose Hear, Head of Clinical Products/Strategy at Cochlear, and exited his first start-up, Ear Machine. Dr. Franck was also a faculty of Otolaryngology at Harvard and UPenn Schools of Medicine, and led clinical programs at Mass Eye and Ear and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. He’s served on multiple national nonprofit Boards, including Chair of the Hearing Loss Association of America.

At Otolith, Kevin leads clinical and regulatory operations, leveraging his deep scientific knowledge and strong industry understanding to drive clinical success.

He led the AI transformation of two multi-billion multinational corporations and is the recipient of the ACM’s highest lifetime award for contributions to AI and data science.

In this fireside chat, Dr. Rao shares hard-won lessons from 25 years of healthcare AI deployment: what works, what fails, and what to avoid.
